Rho Tang
Rho Tang is a Chinese American jewelry artist based in Beacon, NY. Her current practice explores the female body as a vessel for memory, inheritance, and lived experience. She is interested in how knowledge, expectations, and forms of care are passed between generations, and how these inheritances are continuously absorbed, resisted, and reshaped. Working primarily with Chinese natural lacquer, fabric, and thread, Tang constructs soft, hollow forms that are gradually transformed into rigid shells through repeated applications of lacquer, while preserving traces of their original construction. This transformation between softness and hardness reflects the coexistence of vulnerability and resilience.
